Wichi collection

The Wichí community, located in the northern provinces of Argentina, is known for its rich cultural heritage and deep connection to the land.

Chaguar, a plant native to the Gran Chaco region, is integral to the culture of the Wichí community. The fibers from chaguar are traditionally used to create a variety of handmade products, such as baskets, mats, and textiles. 

The chaguar threading process involves several meticulous steps that highlight the craftsmanship of Wichí artisans:

- Harvesting: The chaguar plant is carefully harvested, usually during specific seasons to ensure the best quality fibers.

- Preparation: The leaves are stripped and soaked in water to soften them, making them easier to work with.

- Spinning: Once softened, the fibers are twisted and spun into threads. This process may involve hand-rolling to achieve the desired thickness and strength.

- Dyeing: Natural dyes are often used to add color to the threads, derived from plants and other natural sources, ensuring vibrant yet eco-friendly hues.

- Weaving: Finally, the threads are woven into various products, such as baskets, mats, and bags, showcasing intricate patterns and designs.

This traditional technique not only produces beautiful items but also preserves the cultural heritage of the Wichí community.
